Band 4+: The use of social media, e.g. Facebook and Twitter, is replacing face-to-face contact for many people in everyday life. Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Nowadays, virtual social network like Facebook and Twitter is taking over physical communications for various individuals . While there are certain dermits of online socal channels such as time wastage and boredom these are really insignificant when compared with the merits like accessibility and proper awareness.

On the one hand, one challenge of social media is isolation. Excessive use may contribute to feeling of loneliness as online interaction may not fully replace the depth and quality of interpesonal relationship. Moreover, Digital engagement plateform is time consuming, individual may spend much time wich result in low productivity, difficulty focusing. For example, according to Optimal Newspapper in 2021 states that 80% of Nigeria are addicted to social media.

On the other hand, these drawbacks are insignificate when compared to what an individual will gain from social network usage which is fast communication. People are able to communicate with others regardless of geographical distance which enables interaction with individuals who may be difficuilt to reach in person. Moreso, social media creates proper awareness . vast amountbof information on diverse topics can be accessed, which is valuable tool for staying informed. For instance , the last presidential speech in Nigeria was live-streamed that majority of citizens connected .

In conclusion, internet social plateform is replacing direct conversertion . Although there are certain drawbacks associted with it like time consuming and loneliness theses are negligible to the gains such as fast communication and information sharing.
