Band 7+: The values that we learn from our parents and family have a greater influence on our future success than the knowledge and skills we learn at school. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some people believe that the values taught by parents and family play a more important role in achieving success than the knowledge and skills gained at school. I partly agree with this view, because both family values and formal education are necessary for a successful life.

On the one hand, family values strongly influence a person’s attitude and behaviour. Parents often teach important qualities such as honesty, responsibility and hard work from a young age. These values help people stay motivated, overcome difficulties and make good decisions in life. For example, a child who grows up in a supportive family is more likely to develop self-confidence and discipline, which are essential for success in any field.

On the other hand, schools provide students with academic knowledge and practical skills that are also crucial for success. Subjects like mathematics, science and languages prepare students for higher education and future careers. In addition, schools help students develop skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and time management. Without proper education, it would be difficult for people to compete in the modern job market, regardless of their family background.

In conclusion, while family values have a strong impact on shaping a person’s character, knowledge and skills learned at school are equally important for success. Therefore, I believe that success is best achieved when both family influence and education work together.
