It is observed that there is an alarming increase in the amount of natural resources’ consumption in the world. In this essay, I will figure out potential problems of the phenomenon before suggesting workable solutions.
This tendency can be the culprit of two problematic issues. First, the unreasonable use of natural assets can place a heavy burden on the economic system. Chances are high that raw materials like coal, minerals, oil will be on the verge of depletion whereas investment in alternative energy is exorbitant, which means that many countries, especially impoverished nations are unlikely to get exposed to cutting-edge technology. Therefore, they have to financially rely on prosperous countries, leading to the rise of government debt. Secondly, the overconsumption of natural resources has led to environmental deterioration. For example, many trees at natural forests in Thanh Hoa, a province of Viet Nam, were chopped down to meet high demand in the paper manufacturing industry, posing a serious threat to the survival of various species which are vulnerable to extinction. Woods are considered as the green lung of the Earth so this excessive utilization can cause air pollution, through the generation and disposal of toxic pollutants into the atmosphere.
Owing to the aforementioned problems, governments and businesses are suggested to take prompt action. The first measure is that governmental authorities consider introducing stringent laws to regulate the exaggerated use of conventional resources. Heavy taxes are imposed on businesses, which contribute to reducing the exploitation and using renewable energy such as wind, water, solar instead. Another approach is that people should consume eco-friendly items. A specific example for this, people can consider using reusable bags or grass straws to substitute for paper bag or plastic straws. If this method is put into practice, there will be a substantial decrease in the amount of consumption in natural assets.
