In modern society, the beauty industry is gaining increasing public attention and widespread support, especially among adolescents and millennials who are willing to pay a significant amount of money on appearance. From my perspective, this trend may become a negative development in people’s awareness about beauty standards due to its potential risks and extreme beauty maintenance methods.
On the one hand, a well-looking appearance acts as a catalyst that can boost one’s confidence and attractiveness and create a friendly impression on others. In the workplace, a beautiful face is a significant asset in one’s career, improves employment opportunities, makes individuals more likely to be preferred in a team environment, and increases the chances of being noticed by coworkers. For instance, flight attendants are among the professions that have the highest demands on physical appearance and attractiveness, because they are perceived as the visual ambassadors of the airline. As a result, having a pleasant appearance may contribute to improving an individual’s overall quality of life and position in society.
On the other hand, although spending money on beauty care may benefit people’s lives, toxic substance overdose can affect individuals seriously. Firstly, fasting for weight loss has become an increasingly popular trend among young people. They believe that skipping meals or reducing food consumption can help them attain an ideal body image. However, limiting food intake can gradually deteriorate their health or may even pose a threat to their lives. Secondly, the growing popularity of cosmetic surgery reflects people’s increasing desire to improve their appearance, but in order to maintain their appearance, people who undergo cosmetic surgery often have to use a large amount of medication, which may lead to some serious health conditions such as allergies, skin damage and cancer.
In conclusion, severe consequences may occur if this negative trend continues to increase. Therefore, to address this issue, instead of spending large sums of money, people should focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and following a balanced diet. In addition, the government should strengthen measures to prevent the use of extreme beauty treatments in order to ensure that the public is not exposed to them.
