It is widely believed that a great work of art, in all types of art must possess specific qualities, which are not found elsewhere. Even so, over the last century, the quality of award-winning
pieces have witnessed a deterioration. Consequently, nowadays, it has become more common for simple handiworks to be widely known as ‘masterpiece’, whereas hard work remains unremarkable. I absolutely agree with this statement, because these days’ art lacks depth and originality, and it is unfair respectively for real artists.
It is undeniable that people prefer to work, think and obtain information more easily than in the past. Therefore, the general public does tend to appreciate a simple and easy to understand works of art. In other words, some painters prioritize simplicity, commercial success and popularity over creativity. The main reason is that many contemporary creators of art aim to become well known in a short period of time and the more they sell, the more they earn money. Furthermore, today’s world is full of content on social media, which has shortened people’s attention spans. As a result, complex artworks often receive less attention than simpler pieces. On the other hand, Renaissance artists and writers’ works continue to be admired centuries later because they contain symbolism and noticeable technical skills. This illustrates the difference between true masterpieces and ordinary art.
A strong case can be made that everyone have an opportunity for creating their own art. This means that the number of artworks has increased significantly. So, because of a big competition, many of real arts struggle to gain popularity among millions of works. Another point worth mentioning is that some of mere art are forced by adds and algorithms, which leads to unfair recognition of their artistic quality. This demonstrates that masterpiece may remain unnoticed, while less remarkable works are labelled.
In conclusion, we live in a world, where people do not appreciate sacral meanings and real skill, because of factors, such as social media, adds and artists’ goals, as a result a great works of art is probably expected to experience substution of values and we might stop noticing the true values.
