In the digital age, adolescents are influenced by excessive TV watching and video gaming. I completely agree with the statement that these activities negatively impact children’s mental and physical health, because it leads to sleep disorders and increases the exposure to violent or inappropriate content.
The first reason why I think that overconsumption of digital items has a negative effect on people’s health is that it causes huge problems with sleeping time. Screens emit blue light that suppresses melatonin production, making it harder for children to fall asleep. Poor sleep in children is strongly linked to anxiety, depression, irritability, and difficulty concentrating. For instance, according to research from Harvard University, there is a significant proportion of children who suffer from sleep disorders, which consequently results in mental issues such as insufficiency of production of serotonin and dopamine.
The second reason why I assume that inordinate time over the technologies can cause negative consequences is that some of the contents in an internet source are violent and aggressive. Many video games and TV programmes contain violence, aggression, or adult themes. Repeated exposure can desensitize children to violence, increase aggressive thoughts and behaviors, and contribute to anxiety or fear. In the mass media we often hear claims regarding the murders from the side of children and one of the crucial factors why they act aggressively is the affection of violence games and content.
In conclusion, in the modern era it is not surprising that young generation allocate excessive time on digital sources. From my point of view it has mostly negative consequences such as sleep issues and brutal narratives.
