The 21st century has led to many advancements, including the use of technology in our everyday tasks such as travel, communications and health systems. This has led to us being incredibly dependent on computers and it is considered an alarming situation for many. Some people believe that has created an unhealthy reliance that can set a dangerous precedent, especially in these fields. Although I understand their point of concern, I do not agree with the stance that computer technology should not be used in the communication, medicine and transport fields.
Firstly, regarding the dangers of dependence on technology, it can be noted that a significant amount of our personal details are in the hands of computers, whether it is the travel details, our health information and even who we communicate with. Now, one is aware of the risks involved, since a computer can be hacked and that can lead to release of sensitive information. There is also a chance that a system can be attacked by a virus, which can break down the system leading to lose of information or delays of services. There are a certain group of people who claim that governments can use it to spy on the citizens and protest we should not rely on the computers.
On the other hand, I believe, the use of technology brings more good than harm. We can easily communicate with our friends or relatives and also it has been a game changer among small businesses who rely on these technologies for their inexpensive upkeep. A standardised all in one health information system can be beneficial to the patients too, since it can be used by different specialist doctors and they can then provide better care. Turning to public transport, it is helpful to know the timings based on the online information as it is more accurate and can further aid in scheduling your day more efficiently. There is also less chance of human error when we use these softwares.
Now coming to the issue of goverment spying on us, one can change their perspective and see it as merely surveillance for your own safety. Hence, these technologies can be used to better the society by studying the needs or even catch criminals.
There are many more ways that technology has made our life more convenient and we should not be averse to using them. A lot of issues individuals find with technology can be fixed with better security softwares. Every new technology or machine have the potential to be used for betterment of people and to harm, so it is our esponsibility to use them wisely.
