In modern-day society, it is perceived that large quantities of sales of popular consumer goods is because of advertising, and not the real demands of the society. Although, to a small extent, this isn’t the case, but I strongly agree with this statement.
Nowadays, people easily become the victims of the famous personalities advertising a particular product. This, in turn, encourages them to buy that product and promotes unnecessary buying. For example, children are encouraged to buy gaming consoles when they see famous Bollywood actors advertising them. These advertisements hold the power to change the customer’s behaviour, attitude, and his or her wants. As a result, these customers are so much affected by it that they put their wants over their real needs.
However, this is not necessarily the case. Some of the most common consumer goods like fruits, vegetables, are sold since they reflect the real needs of a society. Also, there is no doubt that modern-day societies are smart and intelligent enough to figure out which product suits their real demands. For example, some individuals restrict themselves from buying an unnecessary product just because they are advertised by some famous personalities.
To sum up, I do not agree that huge sales of consumer goods is the direct result of the real need of a society. I believe that advertising, whether on TV, online platforms, newspapers, etc., hold the power to tremendously increase the sales of popular consumer goods and will do so in future unless customers change their attitude and habits.
