It is a common belief that art and music are two very crucial subjects in many schools. Unfortunately, a new proposal states that they should not be compulsory in classes. I firmly disagree with this new idea, and in this essay, I will give my reasons, with examples along the way.
To begin with, some arts, such as drawing or dancing, can actually foster children’s creativity. They provide children with more ideas and show them how to diversify them, while music gives them rhythms and melodies to paint their artworks more vividly. For instance, in my secondary school, teachers frequently gave their students paints, papers, and many pictures of fictional characters instead of math recipes or biology theories. Students could freely express their ideas; some were really fascinating and clever.
On top of that, these subjects can also help students relax and wind down after a long, hard day’s work. Music is a form of entertainment; it amuses people of all ages. This is a great opportunity to finally escape from the busy world and dive into a more comfortable one. With music, children not only relax but also memorize better. That is why Albert Einstein always played the violin after arriving home to feel comfortable and relaxed.
To sum up, music and art have a powerful impact on children’s activities and the learning process; they help reduce stress and increase imagination. For these reasons, I believe that art and music obviously play an important role in school and should be considered as mandatory as other subjects, such as math and history.
