Band 6+: Topic: Children are now less active in their free time than in the past. There fore, sports lessons must be compulsory in schools. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent years, more teenagers have spent less of their leisure time participating in clubs and other outdoor activities. Therefore, sports lessons must be compulsory in schools. However, I agree with this opinion, because I believe that forcing students to participate in sports may not solve the problem and may have negative effects on some students.

First and foremost, sports lessons are a waste of valuable study time because they reduce the time students can spend on core subjects, which are often more important for preparing for exams. In addition, some youngsters do not enjoy sports because they may feel uncomfortable participating in physical activities, lack athletic ability, or have medical conditions.

On the other hand, physical activity improves children’s mental well-being because it gives them more opportunities to meet and make friends and develop some essential social skills such as communication and teamwork. Moreover, if the young are unfit, the government will have to spend a lot of money on medical care in the future because it will help children develop a healthy lifestyle and significantly improve their overall health, which can reduce the burden on the healthcare system in the long term.

To sum up, with the benefits of playing sports such as improving children’s mental well-being and reducing the burden on the healthcare system in the long term, I agree that sports lessons should be taught in schools.
