Band 6+: University education should be free for everyone. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Education plays a pivotal role in shaping individuals and society, and there is an ongoing debate about whether it should be free for all, irrespective of financial background. While there are valid arguments on both sides, I firmly believe that education should indeed be universally accessible without any cost except for some circumstances.

To begin with, free education ensures equality of opportunity. Many talented individuals from low-income families are unable to pursue their academic performance due to financial constraint. By making education free, society can unlock the potential of these individuals, leading to a more skilled and competitive workforce. For instance, countries like Finland have demonstrated that free education not only promotes equality but also improves overall national productivity.

However, critics argue that free education for everyone can place the strain on educational infrastructure. When education is free and accessible to all, the number of students enrolling often exceeds the capacity of existing infrastructure. This leads to overcrowded classrooms, insufficient learning materials, and poorly maintained facilities. Moreover, providing free education for everyone, including the wealthy, can not ensure the quality of university infrastructure and academic performance. Whether the affluent individuals pay the tuition fee, university can not only supply well-qualified faculty but also enhance commitment focus and academic performance. This will maintaining the overall quality of education.

In conclusion, while acknowledging the advantages of free education, we should pay attention to its drawbacks and improve those problems.
