Pollution has become a major concern in public health, more so in our towns and cities. Public health has been greatly altered by environmental contamination especially in urbanized area. This essay will be looking into some of the reasons associated with it and remedies that can be put in place to reduce the problem.
Polluting our environment has some negative consequences to our wellbeing, this is highly witnessed in towns, mainly caused by, poor sanitation. This has negatively impacted health status of people in towns and cities in that they’re overcrowded in a single area with inadequate crucial amenities like toilets hence forcing them to dump human waste in any place. This has led to increase spread of communicable diseases like cholera. Additionally, poor housing standards have led to widespread of airborne diseases for instance tuberculosis. Secondly, cultivating along the waterbodies and increased use of pesticides has made people acquire diseases. Some medication used to control crops diseases causes cancer of the skin and lungs.
Some of the measures that can be put in place to reduce and contain these problems include; proper sanitation and discouraging agricultural activities along the areas occupied by man-made or natural water bodies. Construction of modern houses that house special amenities like toilets and has proper ventilation will heavily reduce the issue. Another way of curbing the problem is by discouraging human activities like farming near the lakes, rivers and oceans since they’ve also contributed affecting our health.
In conclusion, some of behaviors polluting urban areas are; substandard houses and farming along the areas covered by water. Solutions will include building modern houses and prohibiting cultivation along the lakes, rivers and oceans.
