With the increasing number of car acccidents, some people argue that imposing heavy fines to lawbreakers is the only effective method to ensure safety on the roads. However, I do not agree with this viewpoint, as safety starts with proper renovation of roads and managing the large number of vehiles.
First of all, many car crashes occur due to the uneven surface of the road. While driving, individuals experience potholes and cracks which interferes with car components and lead to serious damages, overtime resulting in car accidents. This issue primarily comes from delayed road rehabilitation, that has been neglected by the government as “non-urgent” case. Moreover, to archieve transport safety, it is essential to conduct roads renovation works every year by the state. For example, Kazakhstan’s authorities are planning to implement road reconstruction of contryside roads to ensure safety of travellers from different cities untill the end of 2027.
Second of all, the mass number of cars on the road is one of the major causes of car accidents. Regardless of all driving rules and even perfectly designed road infrastructure, it is inevitable to fully guarantee safety and prevent traffic jams when there is enourmous amount of vehiles on the road. That is why, enforcing public transportation by providing functional and convinient busses, metro’s and trams is the most efficient method to decrease the large number of cars. For instance, Almaty as a heavily urbanized city with high volume of vehiles, actively investing in public transportation to reduce excessive car usage.
In conclusion, punishing drivers with heavy offences is one way to enhance safety on the roads, however, annually rehabilitating roads and reducing number of cars by promoting public transportation is significantly more impactful to guarantee security on the roads.
