Sadly, space exploration sometimes ends in tragic failure killing crew members, unfortunately this has happened 5 different times in history. On top of this it costs millions of dollars to send a spaceship to outer space. Space exploration is not humanities future focusing on and fixing Earth is.
Surprisingly enough, people focus on billion dollar space shuttles when we should be focusing on healing the damage we’ve caused to Earth. Many scientists agree that “…there are many good reasons to stop spending billions on manned space missions…”(Etzioni). For example, money, it’s one of the most valuable things on Earth. Yet we keep wasting it on space missions to the moon or outer space. As Etzioni points out in “Mars can wait, Oceans can’t”, “I think the practical case for manned fights gets weaker and weaker…”. We need to stop sending space shuttles to space and start putting the money we would save into better places.
As I stated earlier, we need to put money elsewhere. One of these places we need to put money into is the ocean. “The ocean plays a major role in controlling our climate”(Etzioni). If the ocean could be the key to cooling down our planet then why aren’t we putting money towards exploring the big blue ocean. “Ninety percent of the ocean floor has not even been charted”(Etzioni). We must explore the ocean and learn how to use it to cool down our planet, not exploring outer space
Some critics argue that space exploration has been a stepping stone for many inventions, but when you look at the facts space exploration has caused the death of many astronauts. Imagine if your mother or father died due to space exploration. Would you want space exploration to continue if it was the reason you didn’t have one of your parents or your spouse. We need to end the space program before it is the end of anyone else.
In conclusion space exploration needs to stop. it costs billions of dollars, takes attention away from urgent matters here on Earth, and has been known to kill people when it all goes south. Next time you watch a launch think about the families it might’ve hurt and the money it wasted
