Many people believe to include volunteering as part of college study. This essay disagrees with that suggestion because many students have been busy on extra courses outside school and preparing technology skills for the future is more important than voluntary.
What school taught is usually less than what skill that children have to be able. Most of the school only taught a general skill. However, parents usually have their future dream for their children that usually cannot fulfilled by school courses. Many parents brought their kids to have an extracurricular elsewhere. Usually more than one extracurricular, so they have no free time anymore to do other activities. For example, only least of school has taught swimming in school, so kids do courses outside the school time. Not only that, art is also not even important to be part of school curriculum. Most students take piano, violin or even guitar courses after school. If there is a volunteering activity, they cannot do any of those courses, although it is very important to increase their skill.
Nowadays, only learning in school have not enough for students to compete in the global competitions. Meanwhile, not every school has an updated curriculum for competing in this globalisation era. For example, many schools in Indonesia have an IT teacher, but they only teach how to use computers and how to type using a keyboard. On the other hand, in this era, coding or AI are the main things that young generations have to know to improve their soft skills. This will help them to compete in the job-war in the future. Despite added volunteering in the school curriculum, all teachers must be focused on preparing the tech-savvy candidate for the future.
In the end, preparing children’ skill to adapt for future is more important than volunteering. It is not wise when the basic needs for students not even fulfilled, but on the other hand school is prepared to add another curriculum that is not impactful to the future.
