Many people believe that famous individuals should stay away from politics because they don’t have enough experience and competencies. Others argue that public figures often have large numbers of followers, which can help them to attract attention to serious problems and mobilize more people who might not otherwise be engaged in political matters. In this essay, I will argue that people who make the news should avoid being involved in politics because they often lack the necessary background or expertise in political science and economics.
One of the main arguments in favor of celebrities taking part in political processes is their public visibility, which helps them to draw attention to important issues and therefore encourage people to learn more about them and take appropriate actions. For instance, the majority of non-governmental organizations, like World Wildlife Fund or Oxfam, frequently cooperate with stars in order to increase awareness about critical problems. Hence, iconic figures could give a boost to environmental campaigns.
Nevertheless, the participation of famous people in long-term politics can be a disaster in the long run because of the fact that they don’t have specific experience and knowledge in that area. One bright example of this is Arnold Schwarzenegger. His popularity helped him to win the California governorship. However, he made numerous mistakes during his tenure; some of them led to uncontrollable forest fires which destroyed about 15% of woodland in the region. Therefore, fame is not able to compensate for management skills.
