Should people get involved in politics?
When we think of celebrities, we usually think of them as people who are in show business or who look amazing in front of cameras. We rarely think of them being associated much with politics or current news events. But more and more often, celebrities are using their platform to share their opinions about politics and government. Some of them even have a lot of influence on their fans and viewers, which brings the question: should celebrities get involved in politics?
There are people who think it is perfectly acceptable that famous people take part in politics. They might argue that it is good thing that rock stars and film stars get the public to think about important issues and get involved in political life because they don’t listen to the politicians, who look and sound really old and boring. They could also argue that the public don’t have to agree with the famous person but it’s good because they listen and think.
On the other hand, there are lots of arguments against famous people getting involved in politics. Although they can bring more attention to some important issues, they don’t usually understand the real issues and should keep their opinions to themselves. In the same way, one might argue that famous people can’t bring as much influence as people think on politics. If there are people who are influenced by pop stars, they aren’t going to listen to politicians and people who think seriously about politics won’t be influenced by a rock star – they’ve formed their opinion already.
All things considered, I am against famous people getting involved in politics. I think that politics is for politicians, just like music is for musicians and films are for actors. To my mind, famous people should stick to what they know and keep out of politics altogether.
