Since the beginning of the 20th century, the overall population has been constantly increasing at an incredible rate. Pertaining to that, we have witnessed the emergence of mega cities containing millions of residents. These cities have always been a center of attraction for businesses and companies due to their potential. However, because of increasing difficulties in housing and transportation in today’s mega cities, governments have initiated plans and policies to relocate the businesses and companies from urban areas to countryside. This essay will examine the advantages and disadvantages, but also address on “how the upsides of moving businesses to rural areas outweigh the downsides.”

The biggest benefit of moving businesses to rural areas is saving money on the cost of rent and office expenses. Because of the high demand and less supply of housing in metropolitan cities, the cost of renting a building to operate your business is hundreds of thousands of dollars for per year. This means that the amount that is equal to a couple of months’ operations will be spent just to pay the rent and other building expenditures. When a business is moved to countryside, because of the lower rent and building prices, it will start automatically make a profit by cutting office expenses. Another advantage is saving time by spending less hours in traffic. Because of traffic congestion in urban areas, employees of several businesses and companies spend a couple of hours in traffic to get to their offices. Inevitably, this will have a negative effect on their work performance. On the other hand, If the company in which they work decides to move to the countryside, they will not experience traffic problems. By the reason that they will spend less time in traffic, they are very likely to perform better and more efficient at work.

The most critical drawback of moving businesses to the countryside is the potential reputation and customer loss. Although changing the location of businesses from urban to rural areas bring vital advantages, it can end up creating negative public opinion. Moving a business to the countryside may give the impression of downsizing to the public. Therefore, this can have a reverse effect on the company’s image even if everything is on track. As a result of a misconception about a business in the eye of the public, a decreasing trend in sales and operations is very likely to happen. However, this could be avoided from happening with correct marketing strategies and transparency.

This essay examined the upsides and downsides of moving businesses and companies from urban areas to the countryside. As a conclusion, it can be easily said that despite the potential reputation loss, placing the business in rural areas will be more advantageous especially because of cutting expenses on rent and office buildings. Under the given economic climate, this in itself will be a life-savior for several business. It ought not to be forgotten that locating a business in rural areas will also work like a remedy for those employees who are annoyed by traffic congestion in big cities.
