Twenty first century is the time that identified as a «rule of internet». Therefore, many experts argue that old methods of delivering the news are no longer effective. Radio – is one of such broadcasting services that nowadays lost the public’s attention. In this essay, I will examine the importance of radio and find out if it really deserves the approval of individuals.
On the one hand, radio has always been a systematized source of information, unlike the world net. In social media, there is a huge flow of information with extremely fast pace. Usually people forget the short videos from media in a couple of hours while the story they heard from a radio is memorized permanently. Therefore, some people claim that radio is a crucial weapon and it just needs more awareness.
On the other hand, experts say that the person who got used to online environment, would never come back to the radio. It is been a long time since scholars invented online alternatives for radio. For instance, podcasts have the same functionality and even more subscribers. Moreover, podcast’s main advantage is visual picture alongside with the sound. By this reason, radio mostly considered as old-fashioned shows enjoyed by the elderly.
In my view, radio has a potential to survive in media. It only has to adapt and modernize a little. If broadcasting was available in Spotify or Apple Music, more people would get interested. Changing a target audience would be a great idea as well. For example, the blind community, retro-music lovers and etcetera.
To sum up, radio might be useless at the moment, but not hopelessly. The appropriate rebranding campaign may be helpful and one day, radio will attract more listeners. There is nothing impossible!
