Today, many governments around the world are using facial recognition technology in public spaces. They want to make cities safer for everyone. In my opinion, this trend has some negative points but the advantages are much bigger than the disadvantages.
To begin with, this technology is excellent for public security. For example, special cameras can scan faces in big crowds, such as at football stadiums, supermarkets, or metro stations. If a dangerous criminal or a missing child is there, the system finds them in a few seconds. As a result, the police can work much faster and protect citizens. Furthermore, when bad people know that cameras are watching them, they are afraid to break the law. Therefore, cities become much more peaceful.
On the other hand, some people worry about the disadvantages of this technology. First, it can hurt our personal privacy. Many citizens feel uncomfortable because they feel that the government is watching their every step. They want to walk freely without being tracked. Second, this technology can make mistakes. Sometimes, the computer system misidentifies an innocent person as a criminal. This can cause stress and serious problems for regular people.
In conclusion, facial recognition technology has some problems with privacy and technical mistakes. However, I believe that the benefits are more important because public safety is the main priority. It helps to stop crime and saves lives. Therefore, governments should use this technology, but they must make the software better to avoid mistakes.
