There is no doubt that everything in life has advantages and disadvantages. This is especially true when it comes to methods of reading a book, as it significantly impacts people’s lives. While some people think that the popularity of e-books has numerous drawbacks, others contend that it brings several benefits. The goal of this essay is to elaborate on the pros and cons of this trend and explain why I firmly believe that it has various advantages.
On the one hand, proponents of using digital methods to read a book argue that it can lead to unemployment. This is because several factories and companies employ a large number of laborers to produce papers and other items related to book manufacturing. Therefore, if readers start to rely less on paper-based books, this will lead to fewer job opportunities for those people. For example, a recent survey by the Egyptian Ministry of Labor revealed that more than half of the residents of the countryside work in manufacturing paper books. Therefore, this will not only have an individual impact but also a detrimental effect on urban dwellers, as they will be unable to provide the basic needs for their families.
On the other hand, despite the aforementioned downsides, I believe that there are several advantages to be said about e-books. One significant benefit is that using these tools can be cost-effective, as most books are available nowadays free of charge on many online websites. Another positive aspect is that relying on these tools is more convenient because anyone is able to read any book anywhere using his or her mobile phone. Thus, it is clear that fostering new approaches for reading books can be beneficial to people, as it saves time and is useful to them.
In conclusion, although there are negatives to this trend, I think it can provide people with more benefits. In the years to come, it is hoped that the government will launch a comprehensive, large-scale campaign to increase public awareness of this matter.
