Language is highly valued worldwide as means of communication and expression and there are of different types in which people are able to convey their feelings, ideas and thoughts. It’s suggested by some people that all children should be subjected to learning foreign languages from childhood. However, in my opinion, I strongly oppose because many children are less privileged with limited resources at their settings as well as poor accent at the locality which hinders communication efficiency.
First of all, for a child to learn new languages he requires a set of resources both human and physical materials to deliver education skills effectively. In the third world countries, public schools offering education are overpopulated with high census of pupils with very few teachers hence learning foreign languages is very challenging, for instance, in Muri primary school there are no classrooms instead children study under the trees with no learning materials like books or visual aids, also local teachers lack competence of reaching out to learners effectively. Hence resulting to substandard education.
Secondly, for a successful acquisition of eloquent and coherent communication skill in learning foreign languages in early childhood it requires a lot of motivation especially from teachers, parent and pupils. Strong accent has really contributed greatly on negative attitude to many school going children on not learning them. For example, pupils speaking in front of the class may experience accent problems through poor pronunciation hance making it hard for the rest of classmates to understand or others may laugh at them resulting to embarrassment and reluctant attending future lessons.
To conclude, although globally there are many languages that are learnt and spoken by various people and its being advocated that all children in schools should learn foreign languages in early childhood this has not been embraced by all. I strongly disagree with the idea because there are challenges like strong accent and inadequate resources that hinder the goal achievement.
