Nowadays, effects of global warming and other environmental issues are becoming more evident than ever, leading a lot of people to think that we will have to leave Earth for a new home. This essay disagrees with this statement, since the technology required to perform such a large scale evacuation is yet to be invented and various precautions are already being made to protect our home.
The technology to travel to a different planet isn’t yet available for humans. In order to find a new habitable planet, a spaceship unlike any other we have previously built would need to be considered. It would take a lot of time to build one and time is very important regarding global warming, that is, we have to act now with the tools we have, not wait for the right tools and technology to emerge at some time when the situation has gotten even worse.
Another thing to consider before trying to travel to a whole different planet, is the fact that there are already lots of laws and legislations that protect the Earth’s environment. Most people and especially government officials are now well aware of the potential dangers of climate change and pollution, therefore more and more studies and projects are being initiated to help sustain our planet. For instance, in Italy and many other European countries the laws for garbage disposal are quite strict, with people who disregard them ending up paying quite a lot of money and receiving other harsh punishments.
In a nutshell, it is quite unlikely that ditching our home planet will be a reasonable solution for the future human civilizations. The lack of technology and engineering skills requires us to think of different slutions given the urgency, and many precautions are already in place or being created in order to protect the planet and the human race from extinction.
