This article will discuss both views and present my position on the matter.

For example, students who are solving a physics problem can use their mathematical understanding to solve it, thereby developing a deeper understanding of the practical application of mathematical concepts. But it is worth noting that too much emphasis on covering a wide range of subjects may lead to increased academic stress and psychological stress on students.
In contrast, proponents of a more pragmatic approach argue that educational institutions should focus primarily on providing subjects that are seen as relevant to the workforce and social advancement, particularly those related to science and technology. They believe that developing a workforce with expertise in science and technology is critical to meeting current challenges and promoting social progress. In fact, individuals with specialized skills in these fields play a key role in driving technological advancement and solving complex social problems. However, it is important to recognize that focusing solely on utilitarian issues may result in a lack of diversity in workforce skills, which may hinder the development of certain non-technical but equally valuable skills.
With the above in mind, I believe it is crucial that higher education takes a balanced approach. While it is critical to provide students with practical skills and knowledge relevant to the needs of today’s workplace, it is equally important to create an environment that encourages interdisciplinary exploration and intellectual curiosity. This approach ensures individuals possess both specialized knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of a variety of topics, creating a workforce that is not only technically savvy but also rich in diverse talents and perspectives. Ultimately, a comprehensive education that includes useful subjects and the humanities can help individuals better cope with the complexities of the modern world and make meaningful contributions to social progress.
