In my opinion, it is negative to only build specialised facilities for top athletes, and ignore the need of other people for several reasons.
First of all, it may have bad influence on people’s health in the country. If there is no suitable place or proper sports equipment for common people to use in the country, it is highly potential that people will spend less time on exercising. Without exercising regularly, it will be hard for many people to stay healthy and keep in shape. When people are not healthy, some medical care problems will occur consequently. Ultimately, medical cares for unhealthy people will become a heavy burden on the country’s economy and finance.
Secondly, it may lead to lack of athletes. Although it sounds paradoxical, it is possible that building sports facilites only for top athletes results in a shortage of athletes. Top athletes, like everyone, were once ordinary people when they were in their childhood. In spite of being talented, it is impossible for gifted people become top athletes without interest and effort. If there is no sports facilities for ordinary people to use, how can they become interested in sports? If they are not interested in sports, how can they dedicate themselves to training thousands of hours to become top athletes? The anwer is obviously no.
In conclusion, I disapprove of building specialised facilities to train top athletes and not paying attention to provide sports facilities that everyone can use. It is potential that more people in the country become unhealthy and less people are willing to become athletes due to lack of sports facilities for everyday use, which is not preferable for any country around the world.
