Self-driving vehicle are predicted to take over the roads in the future, canceling the idea of driver-driven vehicles. I believe that the drawbacks of this change outweigh its benefits.
On the one hand, this type of transportation helps us in reducing many of the modern-day traffic problems. One of these is the rising road accident rate, as these vehicles will be controlled by a system resulting in more following of the rules and therefore fewer accidents and less congestion. Moreover. there is a good deal of money spent on the drivers, and removing them from their position gives transportation companies the ability to make more profit which will lead to lower prices for the services that they provide to the public. For example, a company in Chine named Uhanshing express started providing this new method of transportation in 2017. Consequently, they experienced a 50% rise in profits in comparison with their previous years providing human driven bus services.
On the other hand, although using this new means of transportation benefit companies financially. it could be detrimental to those who their main occupation was driving these vehicles. As it results in them losing their jobs and their source of income. Another con for this is the possible failures it could result in. There is a small possibility that the systems that these vehicles depend on could crash, and the consequences for this might be disastrous. A it could cause several accidents at the same time and an unpredictable number of deaths.
In conclusion, while the benefits driverless vehicles are beneficial in various ways, the drawbacks that comes with it are far more disastrous.
