Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 6+: Young people are often influenced by their peers. This is called peer group pressure. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays teenagers are often influenced in their behavior by peers. Although this can encourage them to improve their academic performance, I believe that the disadvantages of peer pressure outweight the advantages as it gives rise to lower self esteem and poor decisions in their daily life.

One agvantage of pressure from friends is that it can encourage them to improve their studies. Because teenagers always want to achieve several goals as their friends and try something new. As a result, they develop useful skills, learn something new and become better. For example, students at school have the number of classmates and interact with them everyday and they try something unfamiliar together, sometimes learn several skills from them, resulting great experience and grow. However, I belive that the drawbacks outweight these benefits.

The disadvantages of peer pressure is that it can lower young people’s self-esteem and lead to poor decision even in the future. Because, young people can compare themselves with others in the same age group and feel that they are not good enough. For instance, a students may feel lack of confidence when their peers more successful or popular. As a result, they become unhappy and lose their confidence, which can negatevily affect their weel-being.

In conclusion, nowadays teenagers faced with peer pressure, which can help develop their studies. Nevertheless, I believe that the disadvantages outweight the advantages, as it gives rise to lower self-esteem and lose confidance
