Band 6+: Discipline is an ever-increasing problem in modern schools. Some people think that discipline should be the responsibility of teachers, while others think that this is the role of parents. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

There is an ongoing debate on whether discipline should be parents’ role or teachers’ responsibility. I think both sides have their own reasoning, however, I conceive that both family and teachers should be responsible for a child’s discipline.

Firstly, nowadays, students spend most of their time studying at school. Their daily interactions include their environment at school, by interacting with other students and teachers. Therefore, a student’s bad behavior may come from their surroundings and even as a result of the lack of constraints from school. Consequently, teachers should set class rules and set an eye for any bad behavior coming from students to prevent a child from committing social evils.

On the other hand, it is believed that parents play an important role in a child’s discipline. As can be seen from a child’s behavior, people can indicate if he is well mannered or not, and whether he comes from a good background. Besides, the ruthlessness of students often results from parents’ ignorance and carelessness. In contrast, parents who spoil their children also make them become more self-centered as they always get what they want. As a consequence, these spoiled students show disrespect towards their teachers and rebellious attitude towards school’s rules.

From my point of view, both teachers and parents are responsible for students’ discipline, and none of these sides have more or less impact on children’s manners and behaviors at schools. To sum up, the incorporation of schools and families are crucial to create a harmonious and impactful environment for the education of students in an evolving world today.
