New technologies for communication have a detrimental effect on public attitudes, according to some people. I do not agree with this statement, because modern technology just helps us communicate, even if people are far from each other and strengthen our bond. This essay will support my view in the following paragraphs.
Nowadays, most family members and friends live in other cities and also in other countries. Hence that fact that travelling and visiting are expensive, meeting have become less frequent. Thanks to development of modern technologies, such as smartphones and laptops, people can stay in touch even 1000 kilometres away from each other. Such devices work in any place around the world through the Internet and help them see more often. Consequently, I believe that the new communication technologies help us to maintain social relationships.
Moreover, in the past, people visited each other only on holidays and special events, but due to the advancement of new communication mechanisms, they could keep in touch with each other through the Internet. For instance, in the past, I was able to see my grandmother only on my summer holidays, but now we can see each other on a weekly via video call. As she lives alone now, this online session is really helpful for her. Thus, I think this modern technology is essential and has positive effects on our social relationships.
To sum up, I completely disagree with some people who believe that new technology has negative impacts on our lives. I consider this new technology helps us see each other more and maintain our relationship.
