Band 6+: Some people think that the modern communication is having a negative effect on a social relationship. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is widely believed that advanced communication tools pose risks to social relationships. I completely agree with this view point because the detrimental effect of this on people’s bonds has been seen in modern life.

There are several reasons why the late device harms social interaction. To begin with, there is a decline in face-to-face meetings due to the convenience of advanced apps such as Facebook, Zalo and Messenger, that include many features to assist people in meeting the other faraway. Consequently, people, especially the young, spend much time on digital gadgets, indirectly making them afraid of going outside to meet offline, which lacks genuine interaction like voice tone, facial expressions and body language. Undoubtedly, they will be less likely to understand those non-verbal cues so that social skills may lessen through time.

Moreover, Trust issues can arise in society. This is because artificial communication environments and apps, considering social media and Facebook, make it easier for scammers to deceive people. For example, cyber criminals can create deep fake images to trick individuals into sending money or take advantage of others through fake accounts. In fact, the number of people, who were scammed by phishing in Hanoi – the capital city of Vietnam, is over 10,000; Widerly, that of Vietnam is nearly a million. Therefore, people need to be cautious in talking with strangers which may limit their social circle.

In conclusion, I am of the opinion that digital communication techs appear to bring only negative impacts on a person’s relations.
