The death penalty has become a subject of debate in recent years. While this decision can offer certain benefits, the primary disadvantages of this, in my view, exceed advantages. This essay will explore the positive and negative sides of this approach.
On the one hand, the capital punishment might have a number of advantages. The first point is that this punishment delivers a sense of justice and closure for victims’ families, playing a mildly soothing role. It is usually considered to be the only way for these families to feel like justice has been served through revenge. Additionally, this penalty is thought that it is a strong deterrent acting against heinous crimes. However, there is no guarantee that offenders would not commit crime, being afraid of the consequences. Not matter what type of punishment is given them, because mostly this kind of people have bad psychological condition.
On the other hand, in my opinion, the negative sides of this trend clearly outweigh the positive ones. One of the major disadvantages is that it violates human rights and ethical standards. Everyone, including even the most dangerous criminals, has the right to life, no matter what they have done. Secondly, sometimes, judicial errors happen in courts, resulting in irreversible punishment. For example, a individual is given a capital punishment, and after the death, new evidence, which proves the individual is not offender, reveals. In this case, it is impossible to rectify the judicial error, which is against the legal framework.
In conclusion, despite the fact that the governments ten to implement the usage of the capital punishment to prevent vile crimes, unchangeable judicial results and being inhumane and unethical make it more disadvantageous. Thus, to my mind, life imprisonment is the most convenient penalty for heinous convicts, that means they can not benefit from amnesty.
