In recent decades, most individuals work overtime in many countries. As there is heavy workload and competitive job markets, employees feel compelled to work beyond their standard hours. In my point of view, it can contribute to physical and mental health problems.
This trend is driven by some factors, primarily substantial amounts of work and competition in the job market in terms of productivity. Firstly, due to the escalating cost of living and personal expenses, people take on an excessive workload in order to get promoted. In addition, working overtime is likely to be perceived as a sign of loyalty. Secondly, in today’s competitive job market, employees believe that they are to prolong their working hours to avoid the risk of unemployment by showing dedication and commitment as it is valued by modern work culture.
However, this trend poses significant problems. One major issue is severe consequences for physical and mental well-being. A heavy workload may lead to emotional burnout, such as stress, depression, and exhaustion. Moreover, spending long hours in a sedentary lifestyle might significantly contribute to the deterioration of physical well-being, as the risk of problems with posture and obesity. Another problem is that people who lack to maintain strong bonds with family and friends, feel emotional distress and loneliness, as they do not dedicate time for relationships.
In conclusion, an excessive amount of work and competition in the job market between people is the cause for working longer hours. However, people should be aware of the consequences that they face by doing overtime.
