Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to sincerely apologize for the delay in returning the library books I borrowed.

First of all, I would like to briefly explain the situation. A few months ago, I borrowed several books to help me prepare for my mid-term exam. Around that time, I had just found out about my project topic. Unfortunately, due to a heavy workload and emotional stress, I struggled to manage my schedule properly. As a result, I completely forgot about the borrowed books.

I truly regret being irresponsible with the return date. I also realize that other students may have needed those materials for their own exam preparation, and I may have caused inconvenience. I fully accept the consequences and am ready to return the books immediately. Please let me know if any further action is required from my side.
