Some people state that nuclear power has benefits which outweigh the drawbacks. Nuclear power can be used as a threat to maintain world peace, and can be utilized to supply clean energy in a cost-effective manner. I strongly disagree with this statement as it is unproven to be used daily and can eradicate large masses of people due to the weaponry.
Firstly, nuclear explosives can harm humans fatally, in large numbers, around the world. To elaborate, the nuclear weapons at a country’s disposal, in today’s time, has its impact upscaled to potentially damage and scar an entire nation. In addition, a nuclear bomb can certainly affect neighbouring countries due to the high levels of radiation distributed. Radiation and other factors, such as the extreme heat released when an explosive detonates, can result in catastrophic numbers of death.
Secondly, nuclear power is still premature and is not compatible to be used throughout the world. The discovery of nuclear technology being able to provide us with energy has only been recent and many faults may occur. Hence, energy dissipated could contain radiation and promote different types of health problems. For instance, radiation emitted in Chernobyl is still present and is considered to be a carcinogen which promotes cancer. Therefore, the application of nuclear power for our day-to-day needs is still yet to be fully safe.
To conclude, I stand firm on my opinion regarding nuclear power, as I consider it to be extremely dangerous when used by a country in the form of a detonator. Additionally, the lack of concrete proof for the use of nuclear power in our lives also solidifies my stance on this topic.
