The table and the bar charts illustrate how many minutes in average in a day were spent on leisure and housework activities respectively by men and women in the UK in 2008.
Overall, what stands out from the table is that both males and females in this country opted for TV, radio, video as their primary means of entertainment, while sport exercises were chosen least in all three types of leisure activities examined by both genders. As for the main feature in the bar diagram, while UK women spent more time cooking and washing the dishes, going shopping, and washing clothes and ironing, their counterparts allocated more minutes to repairing household devices.
Looking first at the table, TV, radio, video were chosen as the main means of entertainment by both UK men and women in 2008, with respective figures of 137 and 118 minutes. Meanwhile, they spent least time doing sport exercises, with 15 minutes done by males and 11 minutes done by females. However, women spent a few more average minutes reading books than their counterparts, which was 19 minutes compared to 18 minutes.
As for the bar chart, the numbers of average minutes spent on cooking and washing the dishes by both UK men and women in 2008 were the highest, with the figure of about 30 minutes and roughly 70 minutes respectively. It is important to note that while the amount of average minutes of women spending on washing clothes and ironing was equal to that of men cooking and washing the dishes (30 minutes- as mentioned above), the figure for men doing the laundry was lower, at about 10 minutes. While men spent less time going shopping than women in UK in 2008, the opposite statistic was seen in the figure for those who repaired household devices, with the figure of 20 minutes done by men and about 9 minutes done by women.
