The bar chart illustrates the average time that males and females allocated to household chores, apart from their jobs, and the table shows the average minutes they spent on their leisure activities per day, in 2008 in the UK.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the amount of time females spent on cooking and washing daily accounted for the highest figure, while the average time women repaired something in their home had the lowest figure. Additionally, men were more interested in entertainment activities compared to women.
To begin with, the average time females spent on cooking and washing was over 70 minutes per day, while it was approximately 30 minutes for males. The number of minutes allocated to shopping by men and women was over 20 and roughly 35 respectively. However, clothes washing and ironing took around 30 minutes of females’ time and only 10 minutes of males’ time. In contrast, men usually spent nearly 20 minutes on repairing per day, whereas the women allocated about 10 minutes on that.
The amount of time men and women spent watching TV, videos, and listening to the radio was 137 and 118 each. Furthermore, the average minutes they spent reading was the same, and sports allocation time by men was 15 minutes per day which was 4 minutes more than that of women.
