The given bar graph depicts the proportion of households in owned and rented house in England and Wales during 1918 to 2017.
In general, there was somewhat consistent incline of households in owned dwelling over the years, while percentage of household in hired house declined with tiny variations. Surprisingly, there was equal households in both type of accommodations in 1971.
In 1918, there was minimal proportion of households in owned house (above 20%) and, remained at roughly 30% in 1939 and 1953. Subsequently, households started inclining till 200, peaking at nearly 70%. Comparitively, the proportion in 2001 was almost 50% greater than in 1918. Finally, there was a tiny decline of approximately 5% in 2017.
In 1918, there had dominant percentage of house members (nearly 80%) in rented house. Unlike owned accommodation, it started dipping off with minor fluctuations until 2001, where it was lowest (just above 20%). Despite bearish trend, there was a tiny increase to roughly 35% in 2017.
