Of late, there has been a stark polarization among the members of society, where a group of people believe that with the ongoing development of communication through virtual platforms, individuals will not find themselves lonely and may make new contacts every time. I firmly disagree with the given notion, and the reason for my inclination will be explained in the following paragraphs.
Perhaps the first and foremost reason to support my viewpoint is face-to-face communication. By this, I mean that due to the interference of virtual platforms, people are constantly engaged in social media and forget the traditional method of meeting people at various places like cafes, libraries, gardens, and many more, which leads to a lack of social skills such as public dealing which is highly important in today’s modern world. Another significant aspect that could be considered is the spike observed in creating fake identities on the internet. This means that people who belong to different countries create numerous fake IDs and target young children who have started their tertiary education in top-notch varsities. Take, for instance, some Asian countries which are recognized as the hotspots for video call scams and threaten the victim and ask them to transfer a handsome amount of money in the given bank details. Thus, creating new friends on the internet may never make a person alone but may invite dire consequences which may disrupt their lives and the reputation that they have earned in society.
Conversely, with the help of advanced communication technology individuals may develop new connections across the globe through various platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. In other words, individuals may receive a friend request from their relatives or strangers who have a mutual connection. Moreover, dating sites are in vogue, where people may create new friends by just viewing their profile. For instance, websites like Tinder and Bumble are the leading sites where millions of people are making new friends. Nevertheless, the traditional way of meeting individuals will be an efficient method to know a person precisely rather than having conversations on different virtual platforms.
To conclude, I strongly disagree, despite the claims that were made for making new friends online, the fact remains that face-to-face meetings would be a suitable option to know a person thoroughly.
