It can be argued that schools are focusing on traditional subjects such as art or history, some individuals think that they should be learning skills that will help them find jobs. I disagree with this view because some of these subjects can help people learn more about society and they are just as important as the skills that will help in finding jobs.

On one hand, traditional subjects such as history, can help people learn more about the past and learn from the mistakes made. Futhermore, they help students gain the basic skills needed, such as analytical and communication skills, which are critical when looking for a job. Communication skills are important in the real-world and are the first thing employers look at to approve someone for a job. Lastly, these subjects teach pupils how to be creative and alter the individual’s mind to decide on future pathways.

On the other hand, students want to secure a good job and view traditional subjects as a waste time, they want to learn the skills that will help them get those jobs from a young age. Learning literature for example, will make the individual more knowledgable but not have a great chance in acquiring a decent job. Moreover, these days, people want professional and practical degrees as it will increase their chances in getting a job unlike if they got degrees in art, history or english. Therefore, schools should spend more time in teaching these skills because they find that most students find interest in these topics.

In conclusion, there’s a growing interest on job-oriented subjects, but traditional subjects such as history are just as important as they teach important skills, creativity and provide an insight on society. Schools should equally teach both types to help students prepare for the future.
