There is a popular opinion that a number of people are gifted with talents on the day of their birth. There are skeptics that contradict this and argue that any person can be good at one thing through training and practice.
Talent is an ability of an individual to easily grasp a skill. Some individuals easily excel on their field of interest because they discover by themselves the limits to what they can do. For example, some kids show at an early age their ability to recognize tone, and sing in tune without being taught. As a result, training and practicing this skill will help them excel in singing.
On the other hand, teaching an individual a certain skill can help acquire a skill. However, there are limits to what they can achieve in a certain area due to the lack of will, lack of vigor, or even just anatomical limitations. With this, we can say that training is just a means to improve a person’s God-given gifts. An individual can be considered good with what they do, but not the best with what they choose to do. In light of this, children that are trained will not excel as much as those that are talented. For without talent, a person can only reach a certain limit as to what they can achieve in their chosen field.
In summary, talent is a gift at birth that allows an individual to gain advantage at their field of interest. However, a person not gifted with talent can still learn a skill of their choice through training and practice, but a person with talent will excel given the same circumstance. Thus, it can be concluded that although some individuals can be trained to be good at what they do, it takes talent to excel in their interests.
