The bar chart illustrates the proportion of males and females who engaged in physical activity regularly in New Zealand in 2008 across various age groups.
Overall, women held dominance in almost all age groups in terms of doing physical exercise, with an exception of 14-23 year olds category in which men showed higher results. However, in the group of 64 year olds and above, although with a bit difference, the percentage of individuals who did physical activity every day was same.
A closer look at the data reveals that in 2008, New Zealander men and women actively did physical activities throughout the year. In the 14-23 year olds age category, 51.7% of boys engaged in physical activity, while the proportion for girls’ category was 48.9% which then saw a significant rise in other age groups.
In other age groups, namely 24-33, 34-43, 44-53 and 54 63 year olds, women showed great frequency in terms of doing physical exercise regularly. The proportion of males was relatively low in these age groups with the highest percentage being 47.2% in 64 and above age group, whereas the figure for women was high in general. The highest figure was seen in the group of 44 to 53 year olds, which 54.2% of women did physical activity on a daily basis.
