Band 9: It is invetable that cultures will be lost technology develops. Technology and traditional culture are incompatible . To what extent are you agree or disagree with this view

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is often argued that technological developments pose a significant threat to traditional cultures. Some firmly believe that the rapid rise of technology will eventually lead to the erosion of cultural heritage. Others, however, contend that advancements in technology can actually facilitate the preservation and continuation of cultural practices. From my perspective, I strongly support the former view, and I will outline the reasons for this stance in the following paragraphs.

On the one hand, some compelling evidence suggests that technology has played a crucial role in safeguarding cultural heritage. It is well-established that many technologies have been employed to protect and promote cultural knowledge. For instance, numerous museums and cultural institutions have digitized their collections, thereby creating digital archives that prevent the loss of historical artifacts. These efforts have made it easier for people worldwide to access cultural information, thus ensuring its preservation for future generations. Additionally, technologies such as communication platforms enable greater global awareness and exchange, allowing cultural practices to reach broader audiences.

On the other hand, it is undeniable that the proliferation of technology has contributed to the decline of traditional customs, particularly in industrialized nations. The rapid development of digital devices and online platforms has altered how individuals interact with their cultural environments. For example, in Vietnam, many young people who once actively participated in traditional festivals and community events now spend much of their time immersed in the digital world. As a result, traditional activities are often neglected in favor of virtual entertainment, such as video games and social media. Moreover, the rise of industrialization has led to the mass production of goods, replacing handmade items that once held cultural significance. Clothing, for instance, has become standardized, and traditional attire is increasingly rare, as global fashion trends dominate.

In conclusion, while technology undoubtedly provides opportunities for cultural preservation, I believe that its adverse effects on traditional practices are more profound. The widespread use of digital devices has not only diminished the importance of cultural engagement but has also led to the homogenization of cultural products. Therefore, governments should take active measures to mitigate the negative impact of technology on cultural heritage and promote the continued relevance of traditional customs in an increasingly digital world.
