The given bar chart illustrates the percentage of males and females regarding their seven most common recreational activities in England. Overall, regardless of genders, watching television is the most prevalent activity, which is contrary to playing video games.
Regarding watching TV, spending time with family, doing exercise, and reading, both men and women are interested in those activities at an analogous extent. To be more specific, above 75% men and women tend to watch TV and enjoying quality time with their families, with the former slightly more prevalent than the latter. Additionally, in terms of doing sports and reading, while the participation rates of both genders are below 75%, more males choose these actions for relaxing more than females do.
A closer look at the three remaining pastimes, which are shopping, internet surfing, and computer games, the more notable divergence occurs between two genders’ preferences. Particularly, nearly 75% of women love shopping in their free time, while more than 25% of men share the similar interest, accounting for only one third of the preceding figure. In contrast to this trend, while nearly 75% of males tend to surf the internet at their break time, this figure for females only accounts for around 35-40%. Similarly, the pattern for computer games mirrors this trend, with nearly 20% of men playing those games compared to around 12% of women.
