A quick glance at the line graph shows data on the number of millions of books sold from bookshops, supermarkets, and the internet in Europe between 2000 and 2012.
By and large, bookshops sold the largest number of books at the beginning of the period. Still, supermarkets overtook them by 2012, there was the purchase made on the internet hit a trough in the past years.
In terms of taking a look at noteworthy data, in 2000, bookshop sales were the highest at 170 million. Yet, it didn’t last long; the rate of bookshop purchases gradually declined over the period. The index hit a trough in 2008 at 140 million. In stark contrast, supermarket sales showed a gradual increase over the whole survey; supermarket sales began at approximately 130 million in 2000. Moreover, the figure on it eventually surpassed bookshop sales in 2008 and hit a peak at 160 million in 2012.
With regards to describing another noteworthy data, internet sales experienced a reverse rate. The figure for online sales started at 110 million in 2000, the lowest among the 3 categories. However, it experienced rapid growth in the following years, overtaking bookshops at 150 million, taking the throne in 2008. Unfortunately, the trend on it didn’t last long. It dipped back to 135 million in the end.
