The bar chart illustrates the proportion of transport fuel derived from renewable sources in six EU nations in 2009 and 2010 compared to the average.
Overall, it is clear that most categories witnessed an increasing trend in the percentage of fuel from renewable energy over the period, except for Slovakia and Austria, which saw a decreasing one. Additionally, Slovakia consistently had the highest proportion of renewable fuel consumption among the six countries.
Regarding the increasing categories, the renewable fuel share in Poland in 2010 increased by 1% from 5% in 2009. Similarly, the share of renewable fuel consumption in the transport sector in Spain and the EU average was around 3.5% and 4.1%, respectively, before climbing to roughly 4.9% in 2010. Additionally, the figure for Greece rose slightly from about 1.1% in 2009 to 2% in 2010, making Greece record the smallest increase.
Concerning the remaining categories, the ratio of renewable transport fuel in Slovakia dropped significantly from around 9.5% in 2009 to approximately 7.8% in 2010. Following the same trend, the proportion share of renewable-energy-based fuel used for transport in Austria declined from around 6.5% in 2009 to 5.1% in 2010, while the figure for France remained unchanged in the period surveyed.
