The pie charts illustrate the split between males and females and the corresponding subjects they studied for a major university in the year 2020. Overall, there were more male students than female students in the university. Additionally, there is a marked difference in the preference in subjects chosen by both genders; while the top area of study among males was Engineering, females were more likely to study Business.
In the university during the year 2020, males lead the majority, albeit by 3%, and female students made-up 48% of the class. While the split between the two genders is comparable, the preferences in their area of study have stark differences. The biggest difference between the two genders is their propensity to choose Engineering as a field of study. An overwhelming number of males have a strong preference towards it, with 40% of all males in the university picking the subject, while only one-fourth that percent accounts for the total number of females who choose it.
In contrast, the likelihood of females picking almost every other subject is higher than males. Subjects like Business, Arts & Humanities, Education, and Others all observe a larger proportion of females in their classes.
The only exception to this is with the Sciences subject. Males and females are both equally likely to pick this area of interest, although it is evident that the number of males in a Sciences class is bound to be higher than the number of females, because of the high volume of males in the university overall.
