In a modern world, where everyone lives a frenetic life focused on work, feeling lonely is not an uncommon feeling. Music, however, offers the oppurtunity to relate to others’ experiences and can make one feel less alone. It is at times when we don’t feel understood by the people around us that we look for comfort in other sources such as music and its lyrics.

On the other hand, happy and more cheerfull songs can represent a mean to feel connected to others. The enourmous success that clubs have is the real life proof of this. As humans, we seek connections and relationships and music allows us to create them without the need of using our own words.

The crucial role music has in a society is nothing new, though. Since the beginning of times, humans have always felt the need to communicate with one another through different ways and music is one of the oldest among them. A part from personal taste, music has always been a powerfoul tool to share ideas, emotions, and traditions and constitutes a significant part of a country’s cultural heritage.

Nowdays, due to globalization everybody is able to list to songs from all around the world and, of course, this has both advantages and drawbacks. On the positive side, music is now a tool that can be taken advantage of to get in touch with various cultures. On the other side, people do now have a tendency to listen to songs they don’t even understand the lyrics of. Furthermore, since the music industry is a very competitive enviroment, singers are prone to produce songs that may appeal a wider audience and by doing this the tradition music once used to held is fading.

To conclude, music is a dominant part of our everyday life, starting from the lullabies our parents sang to us when we were kids. In the modern society, traditional music is unfortunately losing popularity but I believe that commercial songs we are used to hear everywhere cannot compare to it. They might be more liked now but they do not carry the cultural baggage traditional music does.
