The last few decades have witnessed a considerable increase in greenhouse gas emissions around the globe, leading to global warming and a series of appalling impacts on the natural environment. Some nations, therefore, actively explore alternative ways to produce energy to combat this pervasive issue. In my opinion, although sustainable energy is generally more expensive to generate, compared to conventional energy, governments ought to instigate measures to speed up the development and usage of new energy. Two of the primary benefits of alternative energy are as follows:
First of all, using clean energy sources, such as wind, solar, and geothermal energy, can significantly mitigate air pollution. The burning of fossil fuels is highly environmentally unfriendly as it creates a plethora of air pollutants such as unburnt hydrocarbonates, sulphur dioxides and even carbon monoxides. These substances can lead to chronic diseases and even fatal illnesses, for instance, lung cancer. Therefore, reducing the combustion of fossil fuel can not only tackle the problem of deteriorating public health, but also reduce governments’ expenses on the medical sector. Seen in this light, using clean energy sources is beneficial in the sense that it helps enhance public health.
Further and more importantly, the recent change in fuel choices can undeniably promote sustainability and create a better living environment for our future generation. As a matter of fact, the supply of fossil fuel is limited as fossil fuel takes million of years to form. Considering that fossil fuel is exhaustible, it is imperative for governments to identify other ways to produce electricity. Otherwise, chaos and social unrests will ensue when the reserve of fossil fuel is depleted. If we can ensure a stable supply of sustainable energy nowadays, we will be able to achieve a more balanced development, which will not compromise the ability of the coming generation to satisfy their needs.
In conclusion, I once again reaffirm my position that the development of sustainable energy is a positive trend due to its positive influences on air quality and the life of the next generation.
