Overall, the percentage of time spent working and relaxing at home increased, while the figures for sleeping and going out declined. In addition, working remained the activity that adults devoted the most time to in both years.
In 1958, the percentage of time spent working was similar to that of sleeping, at 33% and 32% respectively. Meanwhile, the figure for going out was 19%, which was more than double that of relaxing at home, at 8%.
In 2008, the proportion of time spent working rose significantly to 42%, while the figure for going out fell sharply to only 6%. By contrast, the percentage of sleeping fell slightly to 25%, whereas relaxing at home experienced an increase to 13%.
