Overall, in 2006 Europe had the highest level of potatoe consumption per person, while Africa had the lowest. In terms of production Asia/Oceania was a leading producer whereas South and Central America had the lowest production.
The highest level of consumption was among Europeans and North Americans. They consumed 96.1 and 57.9 kilograms of potato per person while producing 126.3 million tonnes and 24.7 million tonnes, respectively.
The smallest quantities of potatoes were consumed in Africa and South and Central America. Then goes Asia and Oceania with a consumption of 25.8 kilograms per person. Citizens of Africa are last in the rating, 14.1 kilograms were intaken per capita in 2006. South and Central America which had the lowest production(15.6 million tonnes) consumed 23.6 kilograms of potato per capita . Asia and Oceania was not the biggest consumer, but was the largest supplier by producing 131.2 million tonnes in 2006.
